Dale and Jo Alvarez recently celebrated their 20th anniversary and have three kids of their own in the youth group: Michael - 16, Gina - 14, and David - 13. Dale and Jo have provided leadership to our youth group for the past six years, providing Sunday school teaching and being involved in the Wednesday night activities, special outreach events and yearly retreats. They are loud and proud about the youth and can sometimes be seen at sporting events where FCCPH youth participate - megaphone and camera in hand! OK, so the megaphone stays home when they go to music events. Come join in the fun!

"To be and become a place of grace for all" is God's mission for our congregation. There are four parts to this mission, each of which has its own special meaning:To Be And Become - to decide to be and then become, to change our state and then change ourselves, to grow into and mature into and develop intoA Place - a body, a group, a gathering, an assembly, a community, a familyOf Grace - God's saving grace to us, God's daily grace to us, and our mutual graciousness to each otherFor All - every person of every kind, regardless of race, age, gender, class, and history

This is what God wants, this is what the Scripture describes, this is what our world needs, and thus this is what we seek: "to be and become a place of grace for all."

We do several simple things during our worship services.

On Sunday morning, we gather together in the auditorium. There, we do several things:We sing songs and hymns; this is to praise God. We partake of the Lord's Supper or Communion; this is the ceremonial eating of bread and drinking of wine to remember the death of Jesus. This ceremony is open, meaning we don't force anyone to partake or forbid anyone from partaking; we allow each partake or not partake as they choose and merely encourage each who partakes to contemplate on Jesus and His death as they do so. We take up a collection; this is the giving of funds to support the work of the church. Like Communion, this collection is open; no one is made to give by force, but each is encouraged to give by freewill. We listen to a message or sermon; this is to hear from and learn about God.We pray; this is to speak with God and ask for His help with our lives, families, work, church, community, and world.

On Wednesdays, we gather together in the fellowship hall. There, we also do several things:We eat together; we share a meal and each other's company. We break into groups for study and prayer; the kids and youth each have their groups, and the adults can choose between a Bible study group or a prayer group.

In all of our services, we strive to maintain a reverence toward God, respecting Him as being above us, and graciousness toward each other, respecting each other as we want others to respect us. We allow for diversity (and indeed have a lot of diversity in age, dress, appearance, and others) while striving for our harmonious edification and God's true glorification.

Our Beliefs - Our Beliefs And Values

We believe in the historic Christian faith as reflected in these statements:

God

We believe God is the loving Creator of all things, both seen and unseen. God is eternal and completely good, knowing all things, having all power and majesty. God exists as one God with three distinct personalities: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God passionately desires a relationship with us, a relationship of faith, friendship, learning, and service.

Genesis 1:1; John 14:6-9, 14:15-17, and 16:7-15; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 John 4:9-10

Jesus Christ

We believe God expressed himself in human form through Jesus Christ, His Son. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, was crucified for our salvation, was buried, rose again from the dead, and has ascended to heaven. On some future day, He will return as our victorious Lord.

Colossians 1:13-23, 2:8-14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Matthew 22:36-40; John 14:1-3; Hebrews 1:1-3; Acts 10:42-43; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God sent from God to live inside all who believe in Jesus Christ. He teaches, comforts, and empowers us, giving each follower diverse gifts.

Romans 5:5, 8; 1 Corinthians 12-14; Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 3:16, 4:3-4, 5:18; John 14:26, 16:7-14

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God's Word containing God's unchangeable truth for our lives. It is without error and is our guide for all we say and do,

Matthew 5:17-19; 2 Timothy 2:15, 3:14-17; Hebrew 4:12; 2 Peter 1:16-21, 3:14-18; Psalm 19:7-11, 119:9-16; Joshua 1:7-8

Salvation

We believe all people are created in the image of God to live in relationship with God. However, through our sin (violating God's moral standards), we broke our relationship with God. The breaking of this relationship with God has resulted in our seperation from God, and with that seperation, many negative consequences for both this life and the life to come.

However, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue us from those consequences and to restore our broken relationships with Him and with others. As we believe in Jesus, particularly in His death on the cross, we are reunited with God once more.

1 Peter 2:24, 3:18; Romans 3:9-28, 6:23, 10:9-10; John 3:16, 5:24; Ephesians 2:1-10; Titus 3:3-8; James 2:14-26Baptism

We believe the Bible teaches that we are to repent of our sins, confess Jesus Christ as our Savior, and be immersed into Christ through baptism. Baptism is a picture of the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It symbolizes new birth, cleansing, and forgiveness.Acts 2:38-39; John 3:5; Col 2:11-12; 1 Peter 3:21

The Church

We believe the church is the body of Christ which is led by Christ. The members of the church are those who have become followers of Christ by believing in Him and being baptized into Him. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by sharing Him with the world.Matthew 16:13-18; Acts 2:14-47

Communion

Communion, the eating of bread and drinking of wine during the worship service, is a memorial of Christ's sacrifice and a reminder of Christ's forgiveness.

1 Cor 11:23-32; Acts 2:42
